Check Out the 2020 Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport Prototype

August 6th, 2019 by

The new 2020 Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport was brought to market very quickly by automotive standards to meet the growing mid-size SUV demand. The Atlas Cross Sport is a two-row 5-seat SUV which will come to dealers in early 2020. Let’s take a look at this newest Volkswagen.

2020 VW Atlas Cross Sport Prototype

The Atlas Cross Sport is a shorter version of the VW Atlas with 5.7 inches of length removed. It retains the same wheelbase as its Atlas cousin so this will be a plus for handling and ride comfort. The Atlas Cross Sport shares the same powertrain choices as its larger cousin. There is a turbocharged 2.0 liter 4-cylinder engine developing 235 HP and 258 lb-ft of torque, and a 3.6 liter V-6 offering 276 HP and 266 lb-ft of torque. Both are connected to a smooth 8-speed automatic transmission. One change for 2020 is the opportunity for 4-cylinder engine owners to choose 4Motion all-wheel drive for the Atlas Cross Sport. This was previously only offered on V-6 variants.

Towing up to 5,000 pounds should not be an issue with the Atlas Cross Sport. In a test drive, a 3.000-pound trailer was towed across Death Valley in the summertime with no issues. The V-6 engine and transmission pair provided plenty of power and smooth shifting for the trip.

For owners looking for a slightly smaller version of the VW Atlas, the new 2020 VW Atlas Cross Sport should fit the bill perfectly. Contact us at Island Volkswagen at 855-602-0808 and we will be happy to keep you advised of the arrival of the exciting new mid-size SUV Atlas Cross Sport.
